Alternative Provision

Our School in the Woods provides part-time alternative provision to youngsters who are in school years 1 to 11 whose unique needs are not being met by their current educational settings.

🌳Our Mission
Our Mission is to re-engage youngsters with learning through time outdoors connecting with nature at a slower pace.

🌳Our Offering
Our 1.7 -acre gated woodland provides the setting for our forest-school inspired drop-off sessions:

Our 5-12 Group
Children aged 5-12 years meet every Tuesday and Wednesday (all children come for both days from 9am-3.15pm during term time) to experience a blend of adult-led nature-inspired activities, and child-led free play in the woods.

Our 11-16 Group
Youngsters aged 11-16 years meet every Thursday (from 9.30-2.30pm during term time) to spend time in nature working collaboratively to devise a schedule of nature-inspired activites at an agreed pace.

At Our School in the Woods, we value a rhythm that allows space and time for youngsters to build relationships, repair conflicts, and follow their curiosities.  Staff are trained to connect with youngsters with empathy and honesty, using a process of observing without judgement.

🌳Changing Lives Through Nature Connection
Connecting with nature changes lives by improving mental and physical well-being, fostering a sense of community, and encouraging environmental protection. By nurturing this connection, youngsters can find a calming effect, improve their confidence, self-esteem and motivation for action. We aim to work closely with schools to set individualised goals and to report on the progress of each student.

We envisage over time that our offering will be expanded to offer greater support to dis-engaged children and young people.
